Nationwide June 18th is Dump the Pump Day.

A rise in gas prices and efforts for preservation of the environment drives organizations like the  Burbank Bus to participate in the fourth annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

The 2009 National Dump the Pump Day, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), is slated to train citizens to take the commuter option or local transit fleet  bus on whichever route serves them and leave the car keys at home.

Hundreds of municipal transit agencies nationwide will be participating on Dump the Pump Day. In Burbank, California, new riders will have a chance to win prizes, such as tote bags and water bottles. The easily accessible alternative transportation should be a blessed surprise to first time riders.

“Utilizing public transportation is the easiest way to beat high gas prices and alleviate stress associated with California traffic,” noted City of Burbank Transportation Manager, Adam Emmer. ‘Dump the pump’ and try the bus or train on June 18, and experience it for yourself.”

Burbank uses fuel-efficient vehicles for a better environment for Burbank residents. Soon Burbank Bus will launch the first hydrogen bus on the West Coast, one of two test markets in the U.S. to experiment with the new hydrogen technology as part of its public transportation system.

Burbank Bus operates five convenient routes, mornings and evenings, throughout the City of Burbank. There is a media company route, a north Hollywood Red Line route, an airport workplace type route, and an urban NorthEast Burbank route.
