The finding of usable wood is best after storms have blown trees down and construction and tree trimming crews have visited the main areas. Picturesque branches and twisted twigs make great fence decorations for cottage style or bungalow yards and porches. Crews don’t have time to clear away small brush, making green finds for fabulous projects a cinch. Usable wood should be clear of sap, trash detritus, insect or bug excretions and have freshly cut branches indicating dry trunks and roots.
Found wood make a green energy cycle possible by returning use to wood that would naturally be routed to a fireplace or dump. Found wood can be stacked in the garage or donated to the church or some green building agency that can route it to an appropriate group or project. Storm wood that is collected for project purposes or green re-use clears the way for runners, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
Even landfills are eroding natural formed earth in record volumes. This type of found wood can be assembled and stuck in the ground on a graduated basis in bare earth for a makeshift border for a bare garden or measure off an area for trash bins or firewood to collect. Found wood of many shapes can be glued together or bound with chicken wire to form a heart snowflake tree or other shape in the garden.
