What’s Happening when people Recycle on Freecycle

Get acquainted with neighbors and close by residents. They could have things you want! This cuts down on trash removal and  traffic. Landfills lower their daily consumption requirements. Water tables reflect less impact of chemicals and derivatives from dump conditions.

What’s Happening when people Recycle on Freecycle? Lots of things are going on! On Freecycle, people are using smart living techniques to be green and not throw away items that still have life left in them.

People are getting rid of unwanted futons, but instead of putting them on the street or causing a truck to haul them to the dump, they advertise and someone comes to get it! Laptops someone does not want to throw away can have another life with another owner! Potting soil and seeds for gardens can be obtained for free!

Imagine instead of buying a whole suit of furniture for a temporary living space or apartment, you could source the furniture, equipment, TV and other things cheaply and locally? Of course you would! Freecycle allows this interface and lets Freecyclers browse their choice of categories.

You can pass on or get that short term mattress, appliance, laptop, set of moving supplies, temporary bunch of summer clothing, whatever!!!! Freecycle posts can be innovative and spur your next green project on. Maybe you always wanted to sew, knit, or whatever but the equipment was too costly. It could fall into your lap on Freecycle!

To get the most from Freecycle resources, take some time to form a strategy. What project have you always wanted to work on? What Freecycle enabled need can you fill in the ingredients for your sustainability project recipe? What things do you have around that house that need to go? A workshop full of clutter could be filled after Freecycle with your dream project materials by next week.

Freecycles uses the above model to promote local trade and transactions which favor keeping roads clean and clear, decreasing needs for fossil fuel gas consumption, lowering exhaust and smog conditions, and providing a more sustainable home environment.

The math using Freecycle works out. Add up time spent shopping and researching and planning a long distance road trip to an obscure store to pick up something. Then add up the time you’ll spend browsing and selecting the merchandise. Then add the cost, and possible even a shipping cost if the item is shipped.

Using Freecycle, the costs come down in every step. Shipping costs come down or disappear because pickup or meetup exchange of items occurs. Shopping trips become Internet browsing related to reviewing photos or item details.
