Freeganism

These days recyclers put the Free into veganism. Freegans are part of a sustainability curve that work with some of the goals of recycling enthusiasts and green loving proponents. Freeganism endorses any path that leads away from consumerism.

Whereas green consumerism endorses and supports monetarily eco-friendly and sustainable products, Freegans believe that buying “nothing” co-opts a survivability not present when compromised by money or industries that spurn animal and human rights.

Unlike people who have nowhere else to turn for food or other resources, Freegans may be employed and educated, yet determined to prove that mined free resources can provide conventional existences. Freegan dumpster diving can liberate landfill bound equipment or other recyclable materials that might otherwise never be reclaimed.

Just as sustainable living mantras urge alternate energy sources, Freeganism embraces sharing, re-use, salvaged goods from the trash and postconsumer capture of living materials. Freegans are trying to prove that conspicous consumerism is neither necessary nor desired,

Freeganism is a term you may practice without knowing what it is. Freecycling and Freeganism is like Freecycling but an awful lot like scavenging. Freeganism entails a lot of craftiness and some risk taking. The values have changed somewhat in popular culture but the rewards can be stellar.

Freeganism entails sourcing materials goods foodor fuels without cost. This can be done with the planned adroitness using resources online and publications that specialize in advertising giveaway merchandise or used or discard goods. Seconds and factory release of end catalog merchandise can mean a potential dwelling or part of an addition or garden.

Dumpster diving is something that twenty years ago would have gotten you arrested. Yet I hear college kids adults and young adults talk about it as though it were a sport. Dumpster diving is a realsitic way to feed a family on nothing and spare the landfills. Spoilage for many of today’s processed foods like cereal can be consumed safely with certain criteria in mind.

While grocery chains nationwide have to honor manufacturers and store commerce guidelines, numerous articles over the years have talked about the generally good condition of boxed food and things discarded into grocery stores dumpsters.

Dumpster diving has become a practice that some store managers overlook because their net hauling charges are reduced. Also, food redistribution that freegans perform reduces the corporate liability from the grocery store brand and flows food to needy people not otherwise eligible for formal food assistance programs.
