Fun Box Recycling Part Three

Look for the recycling project that could mean the most fun this summer for you and your kids. Grab odds and ends from the house and get cracking to make some fun scenes and effects from everyday household items. Here is a list of stuff to save for that rainy day big box project.

1. Paper Clips

Don’t throw these out. these can make painless fastening and assembly for tiny trees and street scene or rain forest dioramas. The figure or part can be painted to dull down the visual effect of the metallic paper clip or used to complement a scene like something with robots or the planets of space.

2. Buttons & Fabric

Floral or plain colored fabric takes on the look of grass or forest, garden or beach. Don’t be afraid to bundle blue “ocean” across the back of a die cloth gives is orama scene or use beige material for “sand”. The texture cloth gives when making a box scene can add a lot to the final effect.

3. String & Tape

Tiny bits of tape can be cut to look lie part of the scene. Colored with a marker, the tape bits can be quickly put securely into small spaces. Picture four squares of tape making a “window” or other tiny detail look real. Tape rolled around on its outer face into a circle can provide a space with adherence for some small construction isndie the scene.

String can be colored and painted coiled and glued. String in the minature diorama can look like “rope”. Covered wagons, clothesline, sailboats, telephone “lines” or construction crane “cables” can be made using thin strine or twine.

4. Straws

Straws are amazing craft tools, as they can be made to look like any color thing but prodice structure and support for other parts of the story. Poles, columns, and other decorations will come to mind making the scene of your choice. Animal antlers or Tv antennas (for the robot) can also be made with these.

5. Cotton balls

Cotton balls for dioramas can be used in white puffs to form clouds or give a snowy effect to the ground or buildings inside the box diorama, or colored green with a felt tip marker and placed on rolled brown paper (tree trunks) to make tree tops.

The best part is that by enjoying this project, re-using and recycling every part of the materials used is the ultimate in sustainable living and eco-friendly fun.
