Green Knitbooking!

The gift I really want for Christmas is a netbook bag. Netbooks are small laptops which are under three pounds and are about the size of one third a graham cracker box. Recycling Inspiration strikes!!!

But the cases sold for netbooks look either like space pods, don’t have enough room for my other stuff, and have handles which I know from experience tend to break or snap. I need a closure casing for my netbook with more give than the stuffed pod ones, and a netbook casing that can be washed and used again.

I thought when I got my netbook that for the laptop to take up less room in my purse or bag was good, but I find myself gingerly wedging it into my purse. This ends up putting pressure against the computer or other things. But the endpoints and connectors on the sides (the lip of the clamshell)  of the computer have sensitive nodules like USB ports and memory card slots. These need to be kept safe and in perfect working order. I think a recycled solution is in the offing…

So if I cannot knit I will re-use a sweater bought at the Salvatian Army/Disabled American Veterans Thrift Shop nearby. I can make my own knit bag!!!! I can recycle a used sweater for a new knitted bundle of stuff. They have a wide selection of women’s clothes (and men’s) organized by color.  It’s nice to think because I am recycling this project I can actually get a color selection and complementary texture the business style laptop cases don’t have.

I think I am going to buy a used pillowcase and a used sweater and sew the sweater up into a fitting drawstring case for my netbook. I hope to find some sweater with a tiny pocket I can re-use for a flashdrive and a button that maybe keeps a flap closed. How cool would that be? I like the black color of my little laptop but sometimes a nice little color carrying case would blend more nicely with a flowered dress or specific colors.

I think I will use the pillowcase sewn in a rectangle as a liner so anything next to the netbook has no string or yarn or stray fiber but draws on the netbook clean. The knit case can be drawn on over it. Brilliant green design!!!

So, use the dimensions of my netbook with seam allowances built in, I can sew myself up a recycled netbook bag. All the supplies I need are within walking distance.
