Recycle bins make recycling clean and easy
Remember in “The Graduate” when Benjamin was told “it’s all about Plastics.” The future of that era is today. yes we are all about plastics and we can see the difference in our landfills. Yes, the future is about plastics. Recycling plastics. And if we want to hand this planet on to another generation in working order, taking charge of the plastics problem is a priority.
Recycling of plastics has gotten more sophisticated than merely every bottle or soda can. Not every manufacturer of beer, soda, drinks, or dairy products is willing to work with recycleable materials for bottling. Some drinks or mass manufacturers prefer to use less ecologically friendly packaging means. These methods of recycling show consumers which products to sponsor by purchase.
Sight alone will not determine whether a plastic can be recycled. When sorting bottles for recycling, how do you know which bottles to sort and which to toss? That raised pyramid of information on plastic bottles. The one you can see on the bottom or on the idnent underside. Does it mean the glass or plastic can be recycled?
Plastics are Number One. But a Number One value fo plastic inside the triangle is polyethylene terepthalate. These Number One plastic bottles mean there is the least chance possible of material inside the packaging to become drawn into the fluid or material inside. An oven TV dinner or a bottle of vegetable oil might be a Number One plastic. Salad dressing or water bottles might have the specification Number 1 on them.
Number Two Plastics are configured of high density polyethylene. Number Two Plastics are curbside recyclables. Opaque looking plastic like that for packaging bleach, yogurt, milk, shampoo, motor oil and household cleaners will be a Number Two Plastic. Check the number to see.
Number Three Plastics are signified by a V in the recycling triangle and this letter constitutes the middle element of PVC. Number Three Plastics are utilized for wire insulation, medical equipment, wall siding, some cleaners and food packaging. These contain chlorine and should not be burned for heat, cooking, or light. Number Threes are very selectively recycled.
Number Four plastics are composed of low density polyethylene. LDPE is commonly used in bread bags, frozen food packaghing, shopping bags, clothing, carpet, and squeezable bottles. Number Four plastic of LDPE is selectively or rarely accepted curbside. Number Four plastic however can be turned into floor tile, paneling, lumber and more.
