No Money Down Recycling

Green careers

Many green thinking individuals review the recycling articles and claim the accessories eat up their cost savings! Yet opportunities to recycle in a manner that creates value and saves money are present every day. The opportunity to offset expenditures and stretch your housekeeping dollar are within every home.

1. Freecycle

Freecycle is handing out free stuff to people every day. Get that Freecycle bulletin out of your trash folder and start reviewing what’s available in your drivable (or walkable) area. Freecycle stuff is surprisingly nice. If you feel especially guilty, use the money you might have spent on a solar powered battery or charger that can assist in an emergency.

2. Source Local

Review your shopping and buying habits and eradicate even one trip that involves additional gas or shipping and postage expenditure.  Research online a similar product or service. Re-use that money, time, or resources looking for cans or bottles that return a nominal cash value. Use the cash value to enjoy a local business or dining experience.

3. Recycle Via Ebay

Determine one item in your home you never use anymore and just takes up space. Something that necessitates special toxic chemicals or a dry cleaner is best. It may even be a gift or unused accessory, some kind of technical purchase or something that never became part of the household mix or pattern. Take a picture and list it on Ebay, researching comparative prices. Sell it and use that money to buy a secondhand item from a thrift shop or purchase eco-friendly accessories locally.

4. Publicize the Green Cause

Your neighbors may not like you, they may not even know you. But if you feel that some neighbors could be recycling more or have a tendency to scrap things on the curb too often, distribute Freecycle flyers into local neighborhood mailboxes. Making Freecycle a topic of conversation can lead to increased donations.

5. Volunteer

Look for recycling cause and eco-friendly recycling initiatives and group community events locally. Organize a network of neighbors or colleagues to pitch in once a month at one of them. Showing support and discussing the event can encourage others to recycle. Meeting others while eco-volunteering can broaden your network of sustainability contacts.

6. Garbage Clean

Use disposable scrap materials and cleaners to effect deep cleaning for carpets, beds, walls, and other places in your home that normally require chemicals and electrcial processes. Using damped sheets to surface rinse carpets and sofas and chairs, throwaway blankets to clean garage or bathroom areas, and towels to wipe grime from ovens. This re-use  conjoins landfill destination materials with one more re-use before they go.

If you happen to pick up some Freecycle items like almost used bottles of cleaners, blankets, towels and sheets, nab them quick. Using materials like this can save entire rolls of paper towels and vacuuming electricity. if you have no cleaning need, drop them off in front of a homeless shelter or Armory. Doubtless, someone wants the stuff.
