Green recycling just became a Radio Shack feature. I saw a sign Radio Shack store that indicated that one might trade in an old piece of machinery or gadget and get a gift card credit. The discount was given by opening a balance on a gift card. Cellphones, laptops, and other devices apply.
Finally a use for this junk!
Some thoughts have occurred to me. I wonder what kind of stuff they accept? And why didn’t I know about it before I moved last year iltransformational recycling of working parts. Recycling becomes part of the retail process with programs tonight. Maybe other retailers could get into the swing of Radio Shack marketing.
Recycling should be done by an experienced manufacturer and aftermarket representative. Radio Shack is probably a very capable recycler of parts. It would be interesting to see what aftermarket prices might be. Radio Shack aftermarket could be a hot one.
It is likely that Radio Shack will be reconditioning the equipment and using the stuff for parts or reselling it to repair shops. I would like to think that these parts could be sent to third world countries because it might soften the funding of one laptop per human. but the reality is that most of these countries do not have the repair or maintenance education, experience and personnel to fix them.
Still, recycling is a positive net gain. The concept is admirably green. The used and discarded device graveyard inside every American home is sizable. Many Americans do not known what to do with their used devices. They have drawers and Christmas gifts and garage duplicates and working but outdated computers, printers, and phones.
The website for Radio Shack has a trade in information page and a Radio shack searchable utility. Lots of popular models and makes of normal desktop and laptop computers yield a selected value. When you bring in the device, the store issues a gift card.
The website stipulates the devices must be in working condition. So get the word out to your neighbors, co-workers and friends. I chatted up quite a few coffee shop acquaintances and the news is not out about the recycling of Radio Shack yet. Hopefully that can change.
Hint: This is the sustainable green business model myself and others have been talking about.
