
We all drive by that stuff hanging by the curb, and the stacks of lamps piling up by the shabby chic resale shops sleep by night. The thrift shop nearest you has some hidden gem hiding there. But when you happen to be right in front of the stuff, does the brain go blank?
Here is a tip sheet to review in case you strike recycling dross to turn into gold.
1. Old Lawn Furniture
New tech in paints mean mildew and rust resistant colors are a spray cain away. if you see old lawn furniture you like the look of, start planning your colors now.
2. Lamps
Certain styles of lamps can be made immortal by a new lampshade or coat of paint or metallic finish. Look for lamps that can be used in garden projects too as planter stands.
3. Doors
Old doors can be trimmed and hung from garden doorframes or gazebo entrances. Doors can make amazing shabby chic insets and custom trim that makes a charming addition to any home decor scheme.
4. Fabrics/Textiles
Recovering olf sofas, cushions, and chair seats means no rules are in force. If the color makes sense in the room you can use it. Take measurement of your chairs along just in case. Even re-using a small part of a a patchwork quilt is still a re-use.
5. Craft Bits
At garage sales and curbside people get so fed up with refuse they fling it willy nilly. but those extra rolls of twine, ribbon, nails, tacks, pushpins, etc. will come in handy next project time.
6. Bread Boxes
These make handy collectors or tabletop or project supplies whisked out of sight at a moment’s notice. Painted a bright enamel green or yellow, this makes an excellent gardening shed catchall for puttering.
