It may be hard to go without new stuff when embracing the re-used, recycled sustainable energy and living mode all the time. But if you can read a Craigslist ad or the Freecycle pages, here are 4 new ways a ladder can be recycled and re-used to add to the enjoyment of your home.
1. Display case
Do you have some objets or some collected stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else? When entertaining these would be fun to have on display. A blank wall or corner instantly becomes a display case and conversational cocoon. Put objects of graduated size on the plain allder or on each rung or step of the expanded (standing) ladder with a cloth over it. Drape each step with fabric so the broad color lines the background of the presentation.
2. Mobile Drinks Station
Parties usually have all the people that want a drink having the most fun where the eats and drinks are at the opposite end of the house. Lighten up on the through traffic and keep an ice bucket, extra glasses, wine or snacks in a bowl or tray on every rung of the ladder. Use a plastic table cover or waterproof sheet of plastic decorated with theme bits of confetti or a color that goes with the decor.
3. Garden Furniture
Why spend a fortune on ceramic planters and garden furniture when a collection of ladders make the perfect planters and garden accessories? Nothing says gentle cottage style like ladder. Use authentic faded metal or paint a fairy pastel or brilliant yellow blue green or purple. Green looks good against these colors.
4. Workbench Legs
Many a ladder that is small is used as a stepping stool. But a pair of old school ladders of small short or medium height can serve as highly utilitarian and decorative legs for a workbench or table. Bolted onto the top, a narrow work table or bench can have a very handy appeal. Ladders are thrown away every day but the recycle and re-use value is infinite.
