The craft fair I attended today was rife with recycling gift ideas, some of them on the supply side. Used pairs of jeans transformed into handbags, and jewelry from deconstructed clothing. Lots of things that could have been made from re-used other materials.
The vogue for re-used materials in gifts is here. Buttons, fabrics, ties, roller whees, pieces of wood, any material expane can be re-used. The bonus for current consumers is that they can participate in recycling. Metal and wood make fabulous ideas. Wire, fasteners, earring pieces and other bits of hardware can become jewelry, sculptures, or both.
Sometimes it takes a visual idea to suggest the great new inspriation. Who knows what gourd sculpture, belt buckled jeans purse, or melted wine bottle glass jewelry can beome the next new thing.
