Recycling in Practice

bundle

Ever wonder at the discrepancy between media reports and actual practice of recycling? Commodity prices per pound are down, and subsidies for some materials have been reduced.  But re-uses for these goods can still be directed with some elbow grease (and freight trucks).

Since subsidies for some recycling programs and other operational priming pumps, business opportunities may dry up  from a sales point of view, but prices to sell are good because at a lowered price more projects can be budgeted adequately.

So, how has the materials market and resale of recycled goods evolved?

What is E-Waste? E-waste is defined as all obsolete or outdated computers, televisions, cell phones, printers, PDAs, and thousands of other devices commonly used in offices, homes, and by people on the go.

The global technologic consumer cycle drives outdated machine toward the landfill faster than some companies can responsibly provide a re-use pathway. Companies like NELA enterprises and ewasteforu.com provide a environmentally feasible option without casting viable components to the winds.

Spying some recyclers right in my field of vision today, I saw the now- familiar bubble wrapped computer and machine components in their crate ready for removal. I stopped to compare notes on the activity. It’s nice to know that avante-garde office managers moved to secure a “good home” for their removed system.

This way the environment is spared a hulking mass of computer parts. if you’ve read some books on recycling and/or making computers safe for the landfill stage of their retirement, you know the job is not easy. These parts of office equipment will hit some second life and have a re-use fate better than a landfill.

An entire group of computers, routers, signal boosters and cables are likely to have a re-use if they are bundled, package and stored in the company warehouse. The people doing the negotiating for the placement of the stuff are the ones who helped truck it away, so they know instantly what the physical makeup of the stuff is.

The gents doing the removal were working in near hundred degree temperatures to get the lead out. And the silica. nd the magnesium cores.
